Athens. A musician stabbed to death in the street by a Golden Dawn militant

On Wednesday 18 September in Athens, 34-year old Greek musician Pavlos Fyssas (better known under his stage name Killah P) died from stab-wounds after being attacked by an extreme right-wing militant. The artist had been caught up in a violent brawl involving in particular twenty or so fascist militants. The murderer has been identified as a member of the Golden Dawn party.

A hip-hop and rapper artist, Pavlos Fyssas was a member of a small, left-wing party: Antarsya. He customarily took part in anti-fascist concerts and was engaged in benevolent activities in his district. His neighbours think he was killed because of his political stances.

This tragic killing takes place against the backdrop of a country exhausted by the joint effects of the crisis and austerity measures, and which is currently experiencing an upsurge of the extreme right. Despite an openly xenophobic language, Golden Dawn currently has 18 elected representatives in the Parliament. Its legality is, however, contested, in particular by the Council of Europe which has recommended that it be declared illegal by Greek authorities.

The announcement of the brutal death of Killah P has plunged FIM and its members into deep sadness. We condemn with all our strength the barbaric acts which led to the death of Killah P and vigorously denounce all language of intolerance and violence liable to foster or justify such acts, explicitly or implicitly.
