Call for proposals

In the absence of previously planned concert activity, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne will be holding a workshop for Swiss composers at the end of January 2021
Over the course of the workshop, the orchestra will read and record works submitted by Swiss composers, who will be invited to attend the sessions, and will also be able to receive feedback if wished from the conductor and the orchestra musicians.

Composers who wish to participate are invited to submit works no later than 12 January. The conditions are as follows:

– The work may be no longer than 8 minutes long.

– It must be written for orchestra (a maximum of 2.2.2.2-2.2.0.0 -T+2 –keyboard- strings (8.6.4.3.2) ) without soloist instruments
The following options are also possible:
Flute: Piccolo, alto flute

Oboe: cor anglais
Clarinet: E flat and bass clarinet
Basson: Contrabassoon
Keyboard (piano, celesta, sampler) Prepared piano is possible but only if the piano can be prepared and reset in a rehearsal break (15 mins)
Please note that there is a limited selection of available percussion instruments. Please contact us if you have special requests
Electronics and amplification will not be supplied by the orchestra. If composers wish to propose any piece involving electronics, they should contact us to inform us of their proposal.

– The pieces to be played in the workshop will be selected by the workshop director and the artistic committee of the orchestra. Their decision is final. Preference will be given to works which have not yet been performed.

– Each work will be rehearsed for an hour, then run through and recorded. Composers must be aware that there is a limit to what can be achieved in this time, and works which are too complex to be undertaken in this context will not be accepted for the workshop.

– The workshop will be open to other composers, musicians and possibly the press.

– Composers will receive a copy of the recording of their work which they will be permitted to use for promotional purposes only.
The Orchestre de chambre de Lausanne reserves the right to use the recordings from the workshop for promotional or other non-commercial purposes.

To submit a work for consideration for the composers workshop, please send a description of the work along with a pdf of the score and the complete parts (by dropbox or wetransfer if the file size is too large) as well as a CV, a covering letter and a copy of ID Card and Swiss residency permit to: roberta.ocozia@ocl.ch

Submissions close 12 January at 17:00. You will be informed whether your piece has been selected by 15 January at 17:00.
